the simple things in life...

Trader Joe's "Everyday Seasoning" and Himalayan Salt
Do you have that perfect "something, something" that you add to almost every dish? We do. It's Trader Joe's Everyday Seasoning. We love this stuff. I really mean it, when I say that we add it to almost everything - the only thing that doesn't get hit with it are muffins and oatmeal! We go through a bottle every couple of weeks. Even my littlest children love it.  It contains a flavorful combination of spices like mustard seeds, black peppercorns, coriander, onion, garlic, paprika, chili pepper and sea salt. It's always a pleasant surprise to get a bit of the coriander, it adds such nice flavor. The Everyday Seasoning is fun to use because each bite of food you season it with tastes a bit different depending on what spices have landed where and how big of a piece you get. The best part is, it's really cheap. Only $1.99! The same goes for their Himalayan Pink Salt Crystals. I've bought Himalayan Pink salt for years and I've paid some really hefty prices for it. No more! Only $1.99 baby.

  1. I have kelp and dulse in shakers that I add to just about everything possible. Sadly, as you know we don't have a Trader Joes in the Fort. =-[

  2. Christy - that's a great idea! I never thought about keeping kelp and dulse in shakers. Where do you get yours from? I just take kelp in liquid form every morning in my tea.

  3. Gotta watch it. Some companies now selling colored rock salt as HPS. HPS can also have high fluoride content.

  4. Thanks for the information, Nick. I do hope that Trader Joe's Himalayan Salt Crystals are the real thing. I am trusting them!
As for fluoride content in Himalayan salt, I had read that it actually contains < 0.1 g/kg of calcium fluoride per serving. Calcium is a buffer for fluoride. Calcium is used as the antidote for fluoride poisoning. This is different from sodium fluoride which is very toxic.
